The Nelson Mandela Memorial Design Competition

The Nelson Mandela Foundation solicited design submissions for a monument that reflected Nelson Mandela’s life, values and contribution to humanity. The PUSH studio design expressed Nelson Mandela as A MIGHTY STONE that has been weathered and shaped by his life experiences and the forces of the social and political environment of his time. The MIGHTY STONE is like a spiral form timeline expressed in four interconnected sculptural carvings: Ripple of Birth, Slope of Leadership,  Pool of Reflection and Rise to Social Change.
